The regulator (ICO) consistently recommends training when commenting on data loss stories or breaches of the Data Protection Act. 

There are many companies offering public courses at city centre venues. I'm a director of one of the biggest names (Act Now Training) and speak regularly for them.

However it's often more cost effective to bring the trainer to you. For one fee you can train 30 people at your premises for as little as £30 or £40 per person. Most staff don't need a whole day and a half day can cover all the major issues. You can fit two such courses into one day. I build in exercises, case studies and video to make it enjoyable and interactive.
